Lee Greenwood and Drew Jacobs release reimagined version of “God Bless the U.S.A”

Lee Greenwood, the award-winning musician behind “God Bless the U.S.A.,” is once again topping the charts. More than 40 years after its initial release, Greenwood has teamed up with musician Drew Jacobs to reimagine the patriotic anthem with a rock ‘n roll twist.

Jacobs has become known online for transforming popular radio hits into rock songs. Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song” and Brad Paisley and Allison Krauss’s “Whiskey Lullaby” are among his recent creations.

The new collaboration was announced in September, and the song became available for purchase and streaming on Friday, November 1st. Upon it’s release, Jacobs wrote:

“Life is a funny thing, it truly goes full circle. This song has always held such a special place in my heart, as I know it has for many others. Turns out that God was foreshadowing something amazing.”

With the 2024 election on the horizon and Veterans Day following shortly after, there is no better time to be reminded of unity and pride in our country.

“God Bless the U.S.A. (Rock Version)” reaches the top of the iTunes Rock chart

“God Bless the U.S.A.” was originally released by Lee Greenwood in May 1984 on his third album, You’ve Got a Good Love Comin’. It debuted at number seven on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and went on to become known as Greenwood’s signature song.

The song has been featured prominently in films, presidential campaigns, television advertisements, and more. Eventually, it was certified platinum by the RIAA in 2015 after having sold more than 1,000,000 copies.

Initial reception suggests that the new rock version of “God Bless the U.S.A.” will follow a similar path of success as previous versions. Just three days after it dropped, the single has claimed the top spot on the iTunes Rock Songs chart.
