We all love Matthew McConaughey, but the latest news about his use of deodorant has us scratching our heads. Thankfully a recent interview with a former co-star put our minds at ease about his hygiene.

In a 2005 interview for Peopleโ€™s Sexiest Man Alive cover, the actor revealed that he hadnโ€™t used deodorant in 20 years and instead opted to go with his own natural scent, saying that โ€œa man should smell like a man.โ€

In a recent interview on SiriusXMโ€™s The Jess Cagle Show, McConaugheyโ€™s Tropic Thunder co-star Yvette Nicole Brown recalled filming with the star in 2008 and doing her best to get close enough to him to see what he smells like sans deodorant.

โ€œI remember that Matthew McConaughey said that he did not use deodorant and that he didnโ€™t have an odor. So my first thought was, โ€˜Iโ€™m going to get as close as I can to him to see if heโ€™s right,'โ€ she said.

โ€œHe did not have an odor. He smells like granola and good livinโ€™. He has a sweet, sweet scent that is just him and itโ€™s not musty or crazy.โ€

The 51-year-old actor isnโ€™t alone when it comes to embracing his au naturale scent. Actress Julia Roberts once confessed to Oprah that deodorant has โ€œjust never been my thing.โ€ Fellow big screen star Cameron Diaz also revealed that she hadnโ€™t used deodorant in more than two decades.

โ€œI donโ€™t believe in antiperspirant. Itโ€™s really bad for you. I havenโ€™t used it for almost 20 years,โ€ Diaz told E! News in 2014. โ€œYouโ€™re stinky, because you use antiperspirant. It keeps all the stink in.โ€

Perhaps if we all smelled like โ€œgranola and good livin'โ€ like Matthew McConaughey weโ€™d be more likely to go without deodorant too!
