on Sep 23, 2020
Matthew McConaughey has long been one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. The man has done everything from romantic comedies, to sci-fi, and even a couple action films.
Known for his very first film Dazed and Confused, 28 years later we see him taking a trip down memory lane and watching his audition tape for the first time.
The 1993 film landed McConaughey his breakout role. How he landed such a role is a remarkable story in itself. At 23 years old he had met the casting director of Dazed and Confused at the Hyatt bar where McConaughey’s buddy used to bartend and give him free beer. They hit it off and McConaughey was invited to come try out for a part. He reminisces about how the whole thing was supposed to be just a summer job, yet it turned into the career of a lifetime.

McConaughey was in a unique position when it came to his character, David Wooderson. In an interview he talks about how he had some creative liberty when it came to playing his character. He goes on to explain how he came up with his now famous catchphrase, “Alright, alright, alright.”
Following Dazed and Confused, McConaughey packed his bags and drove to Hollywood to become an actor. Once he arrived he miraculously booked two consecutive parts at his first two auditions.
