Lainey Wilson performs in front of 75,000 fans at RodeoHouston

Country music powerhouse Lainey Wilson made her RodeoHouston debut in front of a sold-out crowd this Saturday (March 9). RodeoHouston is a 20-day tournament-style competition held at NRG Stadium that crowns champions in various events including bull riding, barrel racing, roping, and more.

From a star-shaped stage in the center of the arena, Lainey performed a variety of her hit songs including “Heart Like A Truck,” “Watermelon Moonshine,” and “Smell Like Smoke.”

RodeoHouston hosts a variety of performers over the multi-week event, and Lainey Wilson’s performance drew the most attendees of any performer so far this year. The total attendance for the night came in at a massive 74,940 people. When the CMA Entertainer of the Year stopped to sing a few lines of Deana Carter’s “Strawberry Wine” a capella, tens of thousands of voices joined in and sang along.

Lainey Wilson invites Randy Travis on stage for a surprise appearance

The Texas crowd was in for an exciting surprise when Lainey Wilson invited country music legend Randy Travis to join her on stage. Randy’s wife, Mary, escorted him out before Lainey took over and helped position his wheelchair “front and center, right where he belongs.”

Randy, who is unable to sing or perform since his debilitating stroke in 2013, grinned ear to ear as Lainey shared some sweet words of gratitude.

After the fact, Randy took to social media to show his appreciation for the experience. He wrote:

“It was a pleasure to be invited on stage by @laineywilson! Thank you for the honor.”
