A new report published Wednesday breathed life into Yellowstone fans’ dreams that the iconic show’s series finale wouldn’t be the end for the Dutton clan.

Multiple reports indicate that Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly, who portray husband and wife Rip and Beth on the beloved Paramount series Yellowstone, have reached an agreement with the network for a spinoff. But, Hauser, Reilly, Paramount, and the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, have yet to issue an official statement.

Deadline was the first to share the news, saying that the actors had officially signed a deal for a series that would tell their story after the end of Yellowstone.

“Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind Yellowstone and its ever-expanding universe, is working on the creative for the new show, which will likely feature other cast members from the mothership series alongside Reilly and Hauser … Led by Yellowstone characters played by the same actors in the same present-day time frame, the new offshoot shares the most DNA with the mothership of any shows in the Yellowstone universe to date, which explains why it will be the first spinoff to carry Yellowstone in the title, sources said.”

If true, the news is a spoiler of sorts for Yellowstone viewers planning to tune into the season finale Sunday (December 15).

The final episodes of the season have been filled with unexpected murders, scandal, and a storyline that leaves the fate of the Dutton’s ranch in question. But, a Rip and Beth spinoff puts fans’ minds at ease that they will survive the finale episode.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year, Hauser and Reilly made it clear that they were interested in following whatever story Sheridan writes for their characters.

“Taylor can figure out how to absolutely continue if he wants to,” Hauser told the outlet. Reilly added, “It’s up to him. We trust him. He’s a master storyteller, and we help him tell these characters’ stories, and it’s been such a ride and so electrifying to play and so invigorating. I trust him with wherever he takes her; whether we’re leaving her where we’ve left her, or we’re going to find her somewhere else, I trust him.”

Will it be Yellowstone Season 6 or a new series?

The new reports seem to hint that Beth and Rip’s story will be a new show with a new title. But, in August, rumor was that a sixth season of Yellowstone with a storyline focused on Rip and Beth was a possibility.

Either option would make sense as the series to date has mostly focused on John Dutton, the Montana rancher-turned-governor and Dutton family patriarch portrayed by Kevin Costner. When Costner exited the show to focus on his passion project, Horizon: An American Saga, it left many questions about the future of the Dutton family and Yellowstone.

As the second half of the show’s fifth season has unfolded, it has left viewers wondering how Taylor Sheridan was going to wrap up the Dutton family’s story, especially the death of John Dutton. A spinoff or a series comeback only makes sense as it would allow the writer more time to elaborate on the storyline and the aftermath of the patriarch’s murder.
