These seven chart-toppers have reached a milestone on the Billboard Hot 100 that few artists will ever see – and more than half are country songs.
On Monday, August 3rd, Ella Langley‘s record-breaking hit, “Choosin’ Texas,” notched its 16th non-consecutive week in the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100. The chart combines all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay, and sales data to determine weekly ratings.
At 13 weeks, “Choosin’ Texas” became the longest-running number-one song by a female country artist in chart history. At 15 weeks, it broke the record for the longest-leading non-holiday hit by a woman. Now, it has joined an elite group of only seven songs to have reached 16+ weeks in the number-one spot.

Longest Running Songs On The Billboard Hot 100
1. 16 Weeks: “Choosin’ Texas”
Ella Langley released “Choosin’ Texas” on October 17, 2025, ahead of her second studio album, Dandelion. It was co-written with Miranda Lambert, as well as Luke Dick and Joybeth Taylor. It went on to become the first song by a female artist to simultaneously top all three of the Billboard Hot 100, Hot Country Songs, and Country Airplay charts.
“Choosin’ Texas” was inspired by a wild story involving Miranda Lambert and a kangaroo. Later, Ella Langley released a star-studded music video for the chart-topping song, which helped further the song’s popularity.
2. 16 Weeks: “Last Night”
Morgan Wallen‘s “Last Night” was written by John Byron, Ashley Gorley, Jacob Kasher Hindlin, and Ryan Vojtesak. It was released on January 31, 2023, as the third single from his album One Thing At A Time. It became Wallen’s first number-one on the Hot 100 less than two months later.
In July 2023, “Last Night” became the first song to accrue one billion on-demand streams in the United States in a single year. In December 2025, it was certified 12× Platinum by the RIAA, denoting 12 million units sold.
3. 16 Weeks: “Despacito”
“Despacito” was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi, featuring Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee, on January 13, 2017. Originally written and recorded in the Spanish language, an English-language remix was released three months later with Justin Bieber.
The song was a global hit, topping the charts in 47 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. Additionally, it was the first Spanish-language song to top the Billboard Hot 100 since “Macarena” in 1996.
4. 16 Weeks: “One Sweet Day”
Mariah Carey’s collaboration with Boyz II Men, “One Sweet Day,” was released on November 13, 1995. Both parties contributed to writing the song, along with Walter Afanasieff.
The sentimental ballad was inspired by the AIDS epidemic and centers around the hope of reuniting with a lost loved one in heaven.
“One Sweet Day” was the fourth-ever song to debut at number one on Billboard Hot 100 and spent 16 consecutive weeks on top, breaking the record at the time for the longest-running number-one song in history. It held the record for 23 years.
5. 19 Weeks: “Old Town Road”
“Old Town Road” was the debut single by rapper Lil Nas X. It was first released independently in December 2018, but after gaining popularity, it was reissued through Columbia Records in March 2019. One month later, the remix version with Billy Ray Cyrus was released.
After initially charting on the Hot Country Songs chart, “Old Town Road” was disqualified from consideration in the genre. Still, it topped the Hot 100 for a record-breaking 19 consecutive weeks. Additionally, it was the fastest song to be certified diamond and received the distinction from the RIAA in December 2019.
6. 19 Weeks: “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”
Shaboozey’s modern remake of J-Kwon’s 2004 single “Tipsy” was released on April 12, 2024. “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” quickly summited the charts, and Shaboozey became the first male black artist to hit number one on both the Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts at the same time.
It tied “Old Town Road” for a record 19 weeks in the number one spot. The record has since been surpassed.
7. 22 Weeks: “All I Want For Christmas Is You”
Reigning supreme as the current record holder for the most weeks in the number-one spot is Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” It was released on October 29, 1994, as the lead single from her fourth studio album and first holiday album, Merry Christmas.
The song is considered a holiday staple and experiences a spike in popularity at the end of every year. “All I Want for Christmas Is You” broke the record for the longest gap between release and reaching number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, with 25 years between the two milestones.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” has sold over 16 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling digital singles of all time.
