The country music world was shaken Thursday (October 3) when a former employee of Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood filed a lawsuit accusing Brooks of sexual misconduct.

In a lawsuit filed in California, the plaintiff, listed as “Jane Roe,” accused Garth Brooks of rape and sexual assault that allegedly took place in 2019.

In a statement shared with Country Rebel, Brooks responded to the lawsuit by saying that he had filed a lawsuit of his own anonymously against his accuser nearly a month prior. His filing was an attempt to protect the families involved and avoid defamation. He also added that he had been dealing with threats from his accuser for months in an effort to force Brooks to give her a multi-million dollar payout that he called “hush money.”

“It has been like having a loaded gun waved in my face,” Brooks said of the threats.

Garth Brooks’ wife, Trisha Yearwood, posted for the first time following the lawsuit being made public.

Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks wed in 2005, four years after Brooks’ divorce from his first wife, Sandy Mahl.

Known as one of the most successful couples in Music City, Garth and Trisha have long been vocal about their support for each other. Trisha appears to continue putting her support behind her husband of almost two decades, as indicated in a statement she issued following Thursday’s lawsuit against Brooks.

In a post made to social media Monday (October 7), Yearwood shared a photo of herself and Brooks singing together during Garth’s Vegas residency. The caption simply read, “Love One Another.”

Garth Brooks returned to the stage in Las Vegas just hours after the allegations against him were made public. He issued a brief statement on social media along with a photo of a sold-out auditorium that read, “If there was ever a night that I really needed this, TONIGHT was that night! Thank you for my life!!!!! love, g”
