Carrie Underwood Sings 2023’s Sunday Night Football Opening Theme – Check It Out Here
In August, NBC announced Carrie Underwood would return to Sunday Night Football for her 11th season. The network hyped up her 2023 theme, calling it “an updated rendition” of the classic “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” tune.
“Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” draws inspiration from Joan Jett’s “I Hate Myself for Loving You.”

Additionally, NBC promised “a surprise new element” in this year’s theme. Underwood expressed her excitement about the 2023 theme, saying:
“Once again, the incredible Sunday Night Football team came up with a fresh, exciting visual concept that really gave us a chance to play. I loved shooting the show open again this year at our home away from home, The Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas [where her Reflections residency is held], and can’t wait for another season of football!”
New SNF Theme Premiered On Sunday, September 10
Underwood’s new SNF opening theme premiered on Sunday, September 10 before the game between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants. The Cowboys won the matchup with a score of 40 to 0.
The “surprise new element” Underwood brought to the SNF theme this year seems to be the fact that she plays a drum solo midway through! The CMA Entertainer of the Year nominee actually included a drum solo in her Denim & Rhinestones tour. So it makes sense why she’d want to showcase those skills again!
Other clips show Underwood descending from the ceiling on a lowered platform, walking the catwalk, and calling on the audience to sing along. All of these performances clips mix with footage of the teams performing that night.
