The Beginning Of Jimmy And Jane’s Love Story
Buffett kept his private life relatively private so even some of his biggest fans don’t know much about his relationship. He and his wife, Jane, met in in 1971 Key West, where Jimmy was living and Jane was on Spring Break with her friends. She attended University of South Carolina. After meeting Jimmy at the bar, the Chart Room, she did not return to school.

Buffett told TIME magazine in 1998 that the next time he saw her, she was “wearing a tight, long pink dress that made a lasting impression on me.” She moved in with him shortly after!
They were married in 1977 in Aspen, Colorado and the Eagles performed on their wedding day! Jimmy was opening for them on tour at the time.

A Rough Patch
After five years of marriage, Jimmy and Jane separated, citing their “party lifestyle” as the problem.
“I’d been with Jimmy since I was child, through the craziest times, and I didn’t have a clue who I was,” Jane once told TIME magazine. “So I left. I got sober.”
Jimmy also admitted to feeling worn down from his party lifestyle. “The hangovers started to feel like surgical recoveries,” he admitted.
They reconciled in 1991 and have been smooth sailing ever since!

She Was A Huge Influence On Him
According to his biography Jimmy Buffett: A Good Life All The Way, it was because of Jane that he and his band, the Coral Reefers, cleaned up their look, which he described as “grungy.” Think ripped jeans and t-shirts.
She also inspired his hit song “Come Monday,” which was released in 1978.
