on Nov 17, 2024
Things are heating up for the Dutton family as the Yellowstone series finale approaches.
With only four episodes of Yellowstone left, the November 17th episode shows the aftermath of family patriarch John Dutton’s death. The character portrayed by Kevin Costner met his demise during last week’s episode.

The remainder of the series will focus on Dutton’s family picking up the pieces after his death. The future of Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes), Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly), Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) will be determined during the coming episodes that are also expected to reveal family secrets.
Sunday night’s episode (November 17), titled “The Apocolypse of Change,” showed the Dutton siblings reeling from their father’s untimely passing and suspecting that it was murder, not suicide as it appeared.
Jamie Dutton, John’s adopted son, celebrates his dad’s death and makes plans to sell the family’s beloved ranch to Market Equities. But Kayce and Beth are determined to fight the sale and put Jamie in his place.
The episode featured flashbacks to time prior to John’s death.
The episode opens with a flashback to a time when Rip and the rest of Dutton’s ranch hands traveled to Texas and unintentionally made camp on a rattlesnake den.
Beth drives to Texas to be with Rip whom she found after putting an air tag in his wallet. Rip reveals to Beth that this is the first time he’s ever been out of Montana. In a possible foreshadowing of what’s to come, Beth teases Rip with the idea of seeing the world without being tied down to the ranch.
Back at the Yellowstone Ranch, Rip and fellow ranch hand Lloyd, question their future at the ranch and discuss searching out other options. Meanwhile, Beth is making necessary plans and Kayce tells Tate the news about John’s death. Kayce tells him that he will find a way for Tate to continue the Yellowstone legacy if that’s something Tate wants to do.
Tate asks, “Is that your job now?” To which Kayce responds, “Only if it’s your job next.” The two embrace, and fans agree that it’s one of the most moving moments this season.
Beth then confronts Jamie about her father’s death.
Beth visits the Attorney General’s office to confront Jamie, but when she enters the room, he refuses to make eye contact, only confirming her suspicions about his role in John’s death.
The Dutton daughter then lashes out at Jamie by violently slapping him repeatedly before telling him, “Next time is the last time. Seeing me is the last thing you’ll ever do alive. I swear to God, Jamie. I’ll be the last thing on this planet your rotten eyes will ever seen. And I will be smiling.”
Beth lets her brother Kayce know about what transpired with Jamie and tells him that Jamie had John killed.
Meanwhile, Jamie contemplates a run for governor with the support of Market Equities.
