Yellowstone fans watched Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler leave Montana for Texas in the spin-off series Dutton Ranch. However, Beth’s brother, Kayce, remained in their home state, where he joined an elite team of U.S. Marshals.
So why was “Kayce” just spotted in New York, of all places?
Kayce Dutton got his own spin-off, titled Marshals, which premiered on CBS in March. The show’s first season ended in May, and after a five-month hiatus, Season 2 debuted.

Recently, some photos surfaced of actor Luke Grimes (who plays Kayce) filming what appears to be a fight scene for Marshals. The photos were taken in Brooklyn, New York, which seems like an odd place for a Dutton to be.
Fans who came across these photos were left wondering what business Kayce has in New York. Thankfully, one of Luke Grimes’ co-stars knows the answer.
Ash Santos, who plays Andrea (a fellow Marshal), said Kayce travels with her character in an upcoming episode:
“We actually were here in New York because we filmed scenes in New York for Andrea and Kayce ended up coming with her,” Santos told Us Weekly.
Santos continued to describe her “amazing” experience filming for Marshals in New York. As you’d expect, she said it was quite the sight to see Luke Grimes dressed as Kayce in such a setting:
“The first day we showed up on set on Friday, the Manhattan skyline was behind us,” Santos said. “We were in Williamsburg and Luke got out of the van and he’s like in the Kayce Dutton costume just walking…And I literally just start filming him because I’m like, ‘What do you mean Kayce Dutton is in Brooklyn?’ It was amazing.”
Will Luke Grimes’ Kayce Dutton Find Love In Season 2 Of Marshals?
Warning: there are a few spoilers ahead for plot points in both seasons of Marshals.
When Season 1 premiered, we learned that Kayce’s wife, Monica, had died of cancer. Because of that, romance seemed to be the last thing Kayce was looking for in the show’s first season.
As the season progressed, Kayce grew closer to Dolly Weaver (played by Ellyn Jameson), and it seemed like the show was setting her up as a potential love interest. However, Dolly died in the Season 2 premiere after her father, Tom Weaver, drove their vehicle over a cliff, killing Dolly in the accident.
After so much loss, will Kayce Dutton ever find love again? Luke Grimes thinks he will, once telling Entertainment Weekly, “Yeah, I think so — obviously slowly and cautiously.”
Many fans have speculated that he’ll find that spark with Andrea. Ash Santos is well-aware of these conversations, and she has hinted at a deepening bond between Kayce and Andrea in Season 2.
“…fans will really love the journey of the friendship between Kayce and Dre, and like, where it’s going,” she teased in a recent interview with MovieWeb.
We’ll have to keep watching Marshals to see exactly where that friendship is going…and to learn why Kayce follows Andrea to New York!
